Counselling

Also called psychotherapy or counselling, therapy is the process of meeting with a therapist to resolve troubling, distressing or problematic psychological experiences. These can include behaviours, beliefs, feelings, relationship issues, and/or somatic responses (sensations in the body) e.g. trauma responses.

During your assessment session, you and your therapist will explore what brings you to therapy, take a history, and work out a formulation using one or more therapeutic approaches. These approaches will vary according to your needs and the circumstances that bring you to therapy.

Your relationship with your therapist is confidential and focuses not only on the content of what you talk about, but also the process. How you share your feelings and experiences with significant others is just as important as the specific issues or concerns you share in therapy.

Beginning therapy can be a big step towards being the healthiest version of yourself and living the best life possible. Through therapy, you can change self-destructive behaviours and habits, resolve painful feelings, improve your relationships, develop a better sense of wellbeing, and find different and more fulfilling ways to live your life.
