Dr Annette Kishore BSc (Hons), DClinPsy, AFBPsS
I am a Clinical Psychologist registered with the HCPC. I am also a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society.
I have over 20 years’ experience of working in psychology services in the NHS and private settings, including training in prestigious London hospitals such as the Royal London, St Thomas’ and Great Ormond Street. Starting from a nursing background, I qualified as a clinical psychologist in 2001 with a doctorate from the University of East London. This included research on coping with chronic physical health conditions.
After qualifying, I worked in the NHS with adults presenting with moderate to severe psychological issues, such as anxiety and depression. Alongside this work, there was an emphasis on working with clients experiencing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. I also maintained a special interest in the area of Physical Health. As well as providing a consultation service for GPs, I co-led groups in cardiac rehabilitation and pain management, as well as anxiety, depression and self-injury.
In 2006, I began working for a private practice based in London alongside my NHS work. In 2008 I began working for a private multidisciplinary clinic in Norwich. During that time, I was seconded to the NHS as the clinical psychologist for the Pain Management Clinic. I also began to work as an Expert Clinical Psychologist in medico-legal proceedings.
Throughout, I have been involved in supervising healthcare professionals, including psychologists, medical and nursing staff. I have provided lectures to undergraduates and postgraduates at the University of East London and the University of East Anglia.
My variety of experience means that I am highly skilled in a wide range of psychological models and techniques. I use an evidence-based approach to work with individuals presenting with a diversity of psychological issues. These include but are not limited to low mood/depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, self-worth, relationship difficulties, bereavement, work-related stress and health psychology. I feel passionate about supporting individuals on their journey towards increasing quality of life and reaching their best potential. My philosophical approach is that each client is unique with individual needs and therefore requires a personalized plan to suit their specific requirements. In accordance with this, my approach is integrative (combining different therapies and tools to create a tailored approach) including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), interpersonal therapy (IPT) and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT).
I am also trained and experienced in using Eye Movement and Desensitisation Reprocessing (commonly known as EMDR), a psychotherapeutic approach used to help alleviate the emotional and psychological distress associated with traumatic memories.
I continue to have a special interest in providing psychological therapy to individuals with post traumatic stress and physical health conditions, especially chronic pain.
