Coaching and personal development
What is Coaching and how does it work?
Coaching is a supportive, guiding conversation focused on helping you face challenges, maximise your potential and move forward, overcoming obstacles and difficulties. It helps you identify and achieve the important goals in your life – in your relationships, your career and work life, your personal development and your wellbeing. Coaching helps develop your self-awareness and personal insight, and you build your skills and abilities through forward-looking, solution focused, thought-provoking conversations. Coaching supports you to find your own answers, without telling you ‘what to do’ and to identify and put into practice the solutions you already hold to achieve your goals.
Coaching is not a replacement for psychological therapy. If your concerns would be better addressed through therapy, Imogen will discuss this openly with you. Imogen has combined experience and expertise in clinical psychology, psychological therapy and coaching. This means where appropriate she can integrate coaching into psychological therapy if your concerns indicate this may help. Her coaching sessions are enhanced by her expertise and experience in understanding emotions, developing supporting and containing relationships, building self-awareness and promoting behaviour change.
From her academic background, Imogen has specific coaching experience working with Higher Education academics and NHS professionals to support career development and progression, and succeeding in these environments. She has further clinical and health psychology behaviour change experience of working with relationship and personal development issues, parenting and life skills.
If you think that coaching is something that can help you, Imogen will arrange to meet with you for an initial assessment appointment to help you work out if this is the best approach, and to identify what it is you would like to work on. Coaching can take place over a short-term, fixed number of sessions, or can be longer-term depending on the area you want to work on and the nature of your goals and targets.
