Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a psychological approach to wellbeing which has its roots in Eastern philosophy and is now supported by much research into its benefits.  Regular mindfulness practice can increase activity in the regions of the brain associated with regulating emotions and therefore increase one’s resilience to stressful events. Mindfulness practice is successfully used in a variety of areas including stress reduction, increasing one’s ability to cope, managing symptoms of anger, anxiety and depression as well as managing longterm health issues such as chronic pain.

Mindfulness is about being in the present moment, developing an awareness of yourself.  Being mindful means adopting a non-evaluative, non-judgemental approach to your own experience.  You learn to become an observer of your thoughts and emotions and learn to recognise them as momentary.  This allows you to be empathic and open to yourself and others.  A mindful approach can help you to create a space where you can make choices more in line with your wellbeing and values.
